Trust God in All You Do

Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. (NIV)

Trust is often hard for humans to give to those that they see everyday and often times it is harder to give to God, but it is necessary for us to live the best life possible. So many people have been hurt, disappointed and had their trust violated that they come to the point in life that they only trust themselves and sometimes not even themselves. This scripture asks all of us to do something that is, for most people, easier said than done. It is easier to trust someone and something after a period of time has elapsed or a history of behavior of reliability has been exhibited, but even then there is still doubt for some that eventually that person or that thing will let them down or fail to be trustworthy. Trust issues are a major part of the life of many believers even to the point that it has negatively affected their walk with God. There are many “Christians” who really do not trust God wholeheartedly but actually are waiting on God to disappoint them or fail them rather than having true faith in Him. To wholeheartedly trust in God is what this scripture tells us to do in order to have proper direction in and for our lives. There are some temptations to not trust God in all things but there are countless reasons to trust God always. Trust in a relationship grows over time and is established with dependable and reliable behavior. God is all of this and more. From before the beginning of time God has been consistently God, meaning that He has been true to His creative, protective and productive nature of doing everything for everyone out of love with everyone’s best interest at heart. I often tell people to think of a time when God has done anything to hurt you or has not had your best interest at heart, and no such time exists. The consistency of God throughout the ages gives us more reason to trust Him with our whole heart in all that we do. Just think of how faithful God is to us: God continues to keep our heart beating, our air flowing, our blood moving through our bodies when we are sleeping and awake. This something that we could not make happen even if we wanted to, we cannot tell our heart to keep beating and have it respond to our command, it responds to God’s command. God deserves all of our trust because He knows and wants only what is best for us at all times. This scripture points out the biggest obstacle to our truly trusting God, leaning on our own understanding. We get in the way of our hearts completely trusting God because we want to be in the know of what God is doing and why God is doing it and how God is going to do it and then we want to check that with our way of doing it. If we don’t understand it then we don’t trust it, but that is not faith it is human logic and reason at work which is flawed and limited in all that it does. God is perfect and when God created the universe He did it without consulting us so why do we demand an explanation of everything now? Perhaps we should learn to do what this scripture says to so and that is trust Him, His ways and His plans for us. Since the universe is moving right along with impeccable precision from God’s design if we tap into trusting God like the sun, moon and stars do then our lives would run so much better than they do now.

Take the deliberate action to begin to truly trust God, not your own understanding, and acknowledge that He is God along the way and your life will not only run better it will fulfill its true purpose.
