Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
This Scripture provides great clarification of who Jesus told us he was. He makes it very clear and puts it in very simple terms, that he is THE way not a way. Many people often confuse Jesus with being a way to God but not the way to God. However, Jesus makes it very clear that there is no other way to the father but by him. I know that many people are taught in various settings that you can get to God anyway you desire, but Jesus makes is extremely clear that He is the way, the truth and the life and that NO one comes to the Father but through him.
Many people have a problem with this Scripture, because they want to incorporate all of the religions together. However, Christianity is uniquely inclusive and exclusive at the same time. Christianity is inclusive in that it is open to anyone who will receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. However, it is exclusive in that there is one Lord, one Savior, one Messiah and that is Jesus Christ. No other person or entity can replace nor be substituted for who Jesus Christ is in Christianity. Even other religions support his Messiahship, whether they openly admit it or not. While it is not my purpose to debate this issue, because there is no debate, it is my purpose to make clear that the only way to the Father is through Jesus Christ.
Unfortunately, many people have begun to develop a religion of their own within their own mind. But Proverbs 16:25 tells us “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” The interesting thing about this particular passage is that it lets us know that even what seems right to us has its limitations and is flawed hence the purpose of us following Christ. Not only are human beings imperfect, prone to sin and error, but we often also have our own selfish agendas. However, Jesus Christ earned the right to be the only way to the Father by the mere fact that he was none of those things. He was perfect, without sin, and will surely not on a selfish mission. He also did for all of us what no one else would do and that is to die a death that was not only excruciating, but was unjust. He was a righteous man that died for an unrighteous world of people so that the people of that world might be made righteous through Him.
I know that this is problematic for many peoples theology, but Christ is very straightforward here. I know that many of us have been taught that if we're just a nice person or if we are just good people that we would make it into heaven. But even the world has a saying that the road to Hell is paved with good intentions. The only avenue to heaven is Jesus Christ. Look at it this way, heaven is a gated community. The only way into that gated community is to stop by the gate have the gate keeper find your name on the list, Lamb's book of life, and then you are granted access into the gated community. The only way our name appears in Lamb's book of life or on “the list” is when Jesus Christ put it there which is when we accept and acknowledge Him as our Lord and Savior while here on earth.
Challenge: If you are not sure that your name is written in Lamb’s book of Life then you need pray and tell God that you desire to spend eternity with Him; after all you are going to spend eternity somewhere. Then confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the Savior, the Messiah and YOUR Lord. If done sincerely your life and lifestyle will reflect this on earth and your eternal home will be in heaven. Translation: You just made it on “the list” you will have no problems at the gate.
