God Will Help You

Scripture: Isaiah 41:13

Isaiah 41:13 For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, do not fear; I will help you.

I love this verse because it provides so much comfort, consolation and contentment to the believer. It tells them that God is going to help them at times when they need it most; the time we are tempted to fear. This verse reminds of my first day at the counter as a ticket agent at Orlando International Airport. I had gone through all of the training classes and was now faced with dealing with actual passengers in real-time and real-life situations. I had an experienced ticket agent working next to me and she had agreed to help me if I needed it. As soon as I walked out of the door from the employee area to the counter all I could hear was loud voices and all I could see was a lobby full of people and none of them were too happy. I logged on to my computer and before I called for the next person in line I said to my colleague, “I cannot do this” she grabbed my hand and said to me “yes you can and I am here to help you do it.” I made it through that day and another eight years with that same company and even under tougher conditions. One of the reasons that I made it was because God gave me that job to support my family and to provide for me during my seminary days. So God strategically placed people in my life to provide a helping hand when needed. My first day is no different than all of our lives. God has put us on this earth to live out our Christian faith in real-time and real-life situations. It is easy to talk about being a Christian and even easier to listen to the accounts of the life of Christ but when we are faced with living out our faith in real-life and in real-time that can be fearful at first. Sometimes things in life come to us so fast and we have to make decisions that will affect not only our life but others as well. It can be overwhelming, but God is telling us in this verse that we do NOT have any reason to fear because He will help us. God sent not only His Son to help us (by setting the example to live by) but He also gave us the Holy Spirit who has that specific task. I also find it comforting that He will take hold of our right hand in helping us; this means that He is proactively guiding us into a place of safety and security. When someone grabs your hand in times of uncertainty in provides certainty that they are in it with you. The mere fact that God says that He will take hold of our right hand ought to provide us with a joyous certainty of His presence because in His presence there is both protection and provision. God keeps us safe and gives us what we need to accomplish the tasks set before us. He did that with me at the ticket counter. God’s help through my colleague allowed for me to maintain my job and complete my assignment with that company. It gave me faith instead of fear and when I transferred to the largest and busiest airport in the world in Atlanta, Georgia I was no longer bothered by the overwhelming amount of people or tasks that I had to perform. In our day to day Christian walk God is telling us that there is no need to be afraid because He is GOING to help us. He is also preparing us for a greater assignment and that won’t have a chance of causing us to fear because His help to us is faithfully eternal. He is the same God that helped us on yesterday and will be there for us today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

Challenge:

When fear attempts to come in to your life remember that God is going to take you by your right hand and help you. So do NOT fear and do NOT refuse his help it will be of eternal benefit to you.
