Matthew 6:10Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Many of have heard the old cliché “it was like heaven on earth.” Well when we are living and operating in God’s will it is heaven on earth. I know that this seems strange to say since many of us have a vision of heaven as a far away place with total and complete perfection and that is true, but we can still experience a taste of heaven right here on earth. Jesus Christ is the example of heaven and earth meeting and coexisting. He was perfect and complete yet he still accomplished God’s will here on earth as it is in heaven. In this scripture, which comes from what we call the Lord’s prayer (which should be called Our Prayer because Jesus says to us in Matthew 6:9 “After this manner therefore pray ye:”), Jesus tells us to ask God that His will be done in earth as it is in heaven. He knows that God’s will is the most precious thing that we can ask for because in His will is EVERYTHING that we need to be perfect and complete beings. Christ understood very well that the perfect will of God is what is best for all involved. Think about it God’s will is done in heaven and there is no sickness, death, poverty, sorrow, burdens or anything that is not pleasantly perfect in heaven. This is why Christ was telling us to pray not just that God’s will is done but done in earth as it is in heaven. Christ wanted us to experience heaven but He knew that this would only come by submitting ourselves to God’s will. If we want to experience heaven on earth then we must
Invite God’s Will into our Lives - It is very easy to say that we want to experience God at the highest level and that we want to have heaven on earth, but this must be a deliberate and intentional act. One must extend an invitation to God to do His will in our lives. God will come in when invited. Jesus never forced himself on anyone but was willing and available to everyone. God will RSVP to your invitation for His will to be done and it will be perfect and you will then begin to experience heaven on earth. Every time we do things God’s way it works out perfectly.
Be Willing to Sacrifice Your Own Will for God’s- Sacrifice is one of the key components to living a full Christian life and experiencing heaven on earth. Jesus at his most vulnerable time in the Garden of Gethsemane sacrifices His own will for that of God’s (Matthew 6:39). This sacrifice was a part of the process that provided salvation to anyone who believes that He is the Messiah. Remember that the Kingdom of God or Heaven does not operate based on what we want but on what God wants for us all. Too often we want God to bless our will, but God’s requires that we accept His will and this takes sacrifice.
Accept ALL that comes with God’s Will-This is often the hard pill to swallow. Many people don’t mind God’s will and the rewards that come with it until they have to go through something for it or because of it. I know you are probably saying “inviting and sacrificing wasn’t enough?” No it is not. We must accept the fact that God’s will is not always pleasant or comfortable but beneficial to all involved. What God wants us to know is that we may not get the outcome that WE want but the outcome He gives blesses for generations to come. All of us are living witnesses to this as what came with the cross (pain and death) did not appear to be beautiful but it has blessed every believer and will continue to do so throughout eternity. This is a prime example of God’s will giving eternal rewards. We all can experience heaven on earth and in its truest since because God’s will was done.
Challenge:
Repeat these words and mean them if you want to experience heaven on earth. “Father, I invite your will into my life. I submit my will to your will. I am willing to make the sacrifices that you require and I am willing to accept the outcome of your perfect will for me. Give me the strength, power and determination to carry out your will for me on earth as it is in heaven.”
